Standard Liege 2-1 Everton

Oct 3, 2008

Everton were sent crashing out of the Uefa Cup losing 4-3 on aggregate to an excellent Standard Liege side.

Despite an impressive start from the visitors, Axel Witsel volleyed home, before Phil Jagielka had given Everton hope with a second-half equaliser.

Belgium’s high-fliers ensured their progression with Milan Jovanovic’s penalty, after what seemed to be a fair tackle from Leighton Baines.

Despite a late surge, Everton were unable to grab the vital second goal.
