Man Utd 4-0 West Brom

Wayne Rooney sparked Manchester United into life against a limited West Brom as the champions moved ominously up to fourth in the Premier League table.

The visitors battled hard early on while Rooney had an effort disallowed.

But the in-form England international cut inside Ryan Donk to fire a superb opener on 55 minutes before setting up Cristiano Ronaldo for a simple second.

Dimitar Berbatov added a casual third after poor Baggies defending before Rooney set up Nani to slide in late on.

Liverpool 3-2 Wigan

Dirk Kuyt’s scissor-kick five minutes from time gave Liverpool all three points against 10-man Wigan in a pulsating game at Anfield.

Amr Zaki gave the visitors the lead after a mistake from Daniel Agger, but Kuyt fired Liverpool level.

On the stroke of half-time Zaki scored a spectacular overhead-kick to restore Wigan’s lead, before Antonio Valencia was sent off for two bookable offences.

The home side hit back through Albert Riera, before Kuyt’s late winner.

The result is harsh on a Wigan side who, until Valencia’s sending off, looked good value for at least a point.

Arsenal 3-1 Everton

Arsenal kept themselves in the title hunt as they came from behind to win.

Leon Osman put Everton ahead when he exchanged passes with Steven Pienaar and converted at the near post.

Samir Nasri equalised with a low shot from 20 yards and Robin Van Persie headed Arsenal in front after Tim Howard parried Cesc Fabregas’ shot.

With Arsenal then in the ascendancy, substitute Theo Walcott played a one-two with Abou Diaby before slotting in the third through Howard’s legs.

It was a remarkable turnaround for Arsenal, who had looked far from assured at the start – largely because of their untried defence, which included debutant Mikael Silvestre in the centre.

Middlesbrough 0-5 Chelsea

Chelsea completely outclassed Middlesbrough to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Salomon Kalou began the rout, stroking in after Juliano Belletti’s shot had been blocked and Belletti made it 2-0 with a stunning 30-yard shot.

Kalou got his second when his low strike deflected off David Wheater before Frank Lampard’s diving header rounded off a superb Chelsea breakaway.

Florent Malouda tapped in the fifth after Nicolas Anelka had hit the post.

Chelsea’s intent was clear from the start – move the ball quickly, play with fluency and control and retain possession.

Belarus 1-3 England

Wayne Rooney scored twice as England took a giant stride towards World Cup qualification by beating Belarus to make it maximum points from four games.

Steven Gerrard gave England the lead from 30 yards after 11 minutes, but Pavel Sitko headed a deserved leveller for Belarus before the break.

Rooney turned in a cross from Emile Heskey five minutes after the break.

And he lifted home a superb third from Gerrard’s pass 16 minutes from time to give coach Fabio Capello another win.
