Chelsea 1-1 Tottenham

August 31st, 2008 efootie Posted in Chelsea, Premiership, Tottenham Hotspur No Comments »

A resolute Tottenham earned their first point of the season as they held a frustrated Chelsea to a draw.

Michael Essien hit the bar for Chelsea before they went ahead from a disputed corner after Darren Bent’s sliced clearance went in off Juliano Belletti.

But Bent atoned when he slotted in the equaliser after inadvertently being played in by Chelsea’s Frank Lampard.

The home side dominated possession in search of a winner but Spurs repelled their attacks to hold on for a draw.

Tottenham 1-2 Sunderland

August 24th, 2008 efootie Posted in Sunderland, Premiership, Tottenham Hotspur No Comments »

Djibril Cisse scored on his Sunderland debut to condemn Tottenham to their second straight Premier League defeat.

Spurs, who dropped Dimitar Berbatov, were lucky not to trail at half-time after Steed Malbranque hit the post.

Gareth Bale powered a header over for the hosts soon after the re-start but they fell behind when Kieran Richardson rifled home after 55 minutes.

Spurs twice went close before Jermaine Jenas levelled but sub Cisse’s late header left Tottenham without a point.

Middlesbrough 2-1 Tottenham

August 17th, 2008 efootie Posted in Middlesborough, Premiership, Tottenham Hotspur No Comments »

Mido returned to haunt his former club as Middlesbrough eased to a comfortable victory over Spurs at the Riverside.

Spurs dominated possession but it was Boro that created the chances and David Wheater was unfortunate to have a header ruled out for a foul.

His luck changed, though, in the second half when he bundled home the opener after Afonso Alves had hit the bar.

And substitute Mido wrapped it up as he fired in from 12 yards, before Rob Huth put through his own goal late on.

But it was of little consolation for Juande Ramos’s side after a performance lacking in incision and firepower was exposed by an effervescent Middlesbrough team.

Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool

May 12th, 2008 efootie Posted in Liverpool, Premiership, Tottenham Hotspur No Comments »

Goals from Andriy Voronin and Fernando Torres secured a comfortable victory for Liverpool over Tottenham in a lack-lustre affair at White Hart Lane.

Voronin opened the scoring midway through the second-half slipping the ball past Radek Cerny after latching onto Torres’ flick-on.

Torres then made it 2-0 with a superb individual effort, his 24th league goal of his debut Liverpool season.

The Spaniard also hit the crossbar with a fine chip late on.

Although both teams had little to play for, Liverpool being secure in fourth place and Tottenham stuck in mid-table, entertainment was in short supply early on.

The visitors shaded a poor first 45 minutes, dominating possession with Tottenham struggling to get out of their half.

Reading 0-1 Tottenham

May 4th, 2008 efootie Posted in Reading, Premiership, Tottenham Hotspur No Comments »

Robbie Keane scored the game’s only goal as Tottenham’s first win in six plunged Reading into the drop zone and in stark danger of relegation.

The Irishman clipped in after good work from Darren Bent, who himself twice went close as Spurs dominated early on.

Reading finally found their feet in the second half and Dave Kitson and Liam Rosenior both forced fabulous saves from Radek Cerny in a tense finale.

But Bent also hit the post for Spurs and the visitors found no way through.

It means the Royals must now get a result against Derby on the last day of the season and hope that Fulham drop points
