Stoke 2-1 Arsenal

November 2nd, 2008 efootie Posted in Stoke City, Arsenal, Premiership No Comments »

Ricardo Fuller and Seyi Olofinjana both scored after long throw-ins by Rory Delap as Arsenal capitulated and also had Robin van Persie sent off.

Delap sent a throw to the far post and Fuller glanced in for the opener.

Delap, himself, then looped in a header that Gael Clichy cleared off the line before Olofinjana chested in Stoke’s second from another Delap throw-in.

Van Persie saw red for shoving Thomas Sorensen before Clichy pulled a goal back with a deflected shot.

The defeat is another serious blow to Arsenal’s title aspirations, while Stoke will be delighted with three points that take them a little further away from the drop zone.

Man City 3-0 Stoke

October 27th, 2008 efootie Posted in Stoke City, Manchester City, Premiership No Comments »

Struggling Stoke were torn to shreds by a Robinho hat-trick which gave Manchester City their first Premier League victory in four matches.

Robinho fired in the opener after being picked out by Ched Evans.

And he slotted his second past keeper Thomas Sorensen after being set up by substitute Danny Sturridge’s pass.

Robinho was twice denied by Sorensen before collecting another fine ball from Sturridge and calmly shooting into the bottom corner of the net.

City were without striker Jo, who was ill, and lost Evans to injury five minutes before half-time, but they still had far too much attacking flair for the Potters.

Robinho was in unstoppable form and went close early on, when he carried the ball 40 yards before his thumping shot was pushed away by Sorensen at the near post.

Portsmouth 2-1 Stoke

Jermain Defoe netted the winner and Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch scored with a spectacular overhead kick as Stoke were beaten at Fratton Park.

Crouch acrobatically fired Defoe’s cross into the bottom corner.

Stoke equalised when Rory Delap’s long throw was flicked on by Dave Kitson and Ricardo Fuller headed home.

Defoe rattled the post with a 30-yard drive but then found the net after Stoke’s Seyi Olofinjana allowed him to cut in from the left and shoot.

Stoke’s defeat leaves them in the bottom three with just one win from their opening seven Premier League matches.

Stoke 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea saw off Stoke to rack up their sixth Premier League away win in a row and return to the top of the table.

The visitors dominated the first half and Jose Bosingwa latched onto a fine Frank Lampard pass to crash the ball in via Danny Griffin for the opener.

A spirited Stoke side rallied after the break and Leon Cort had a towering header cleared off the line.

But Chelsea wrapped up the win when Nicolas Anelka fired home after a terrible blunder by Cort.

Stoke 2-3 Everton

September 15th, 2008 efootie Posted in Stoke City, Everton, Premiership No Comments »

Everton fended off a determined Stoke fightback to earn a win courtesy of Tim Cahill’s header.

Yakubu had clinically sidefooted the visitors ahead before Victor Anichebe’s glanced header added a second.

But two Rory Delap long throws were not dealt with by Everton and Stoke drew level through a Seyi Olofinjana volley and Phil Jagielka’s headed own goal.

Everton boss David Moyes was sent to the stands after his side were denied a penalty before Cahill headed in.

Everton will feel justice was done, while Stoke will be left ruing the lack of reward for their valiant efforts.
