Hull 0-1 Bolton

November 9th, 2008 efootie Posted in Hull City, Bolton, Premiership No Comments »

Matthew Taylor struck the only goal as Bolton picked up their second win in six days but condemned Hull to their third straight Premier League defeat.

Taylor scored with a left-foot strike from the edge of the area that went through a crowd of players.

Marlon King hit the woodwork for Hull while Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen made a great double save from Geovanni.

The keeper parried from King late on and brilliantly recovered to punch the ball clear with Geovanni again lurking.

Man Utd 4-3 Hull

November 2nd, 2008 efootie Posted in Hull City, Manchester United, Premiership No Comments »

Manchester United survived a late rally by Hull to move up to third place in the Premier League.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a low strike before Daniel Cousin headed Hull level at the near post.

Michael Carrick struck from 20 yards, Ronaldo headed in a corner and Nemanja Vidic volleyed home as United led 4-1.

But Bernard Mendy lobbed Edwin van der Sar, and when Mendy was fouled by Rio Ferdinand, Geovanni converted the penalty to set up a grandstand finish.

Hull started the match two points ahead of their opponents and defending an unbeaten away record in the Premier League but Phil Brown’s team were outclassed by their illustrious and expensively assembled opponents for most of the game.

Hull 0-3 Chelsea

November 1st, 2008 efootie Posted in Hull City, Chelsea, Premiership No Comments »

Chelsea bounced back from their home defeat to Liverpool and ended Hull’s sequence of four straight wins with a deserved victory at the KC Stadium.

Frank Lampard’s brilliant early lob put Chelsea ahead but Daniel Cousin almost equalised with a low strike from 20 yards that hit the post.

Suicidal hesitation in the Hull defence allowed Nicolas Anelka to steal in and smash home Chelsea’s decisive second.

Florent Malouda then converted Ricardo Carvalho’s cross from six yards.

Hull had beaten the four previous London clubs they had met this season - Fulham, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham - but they were brought back down to earth by Chelsea.

West Brom 0-3 Hull City

October 27th, 2008 efootie Posted in Hull City, West Brom, Premiership No Comments »

Only goal difference separates Hull from the top of the Premier League after a comprehensive victory over fellow top-flight newcomers West Brom.

Albion’s Jonas Olsson headed against the bar after Borja Valero’s shot had been saved before Kamil Zayatte headed wide when unmarked as Hull fought back.

Zayatte volleyed Hull in front from a corner for his first goal for the club.

Brazilian Geovanni made it 2-0 with a diving header after Marlon King’s flick before King slotted in a low shot.

It was the fourth successive win for Hull and takes them to level on points with leaders Chelsea and second-placed Liverpool who play each other on Sunday.

Phil Brown’s men also moved four points clear of fourth-placed Arsenal, who also play on Sunday, and five ahead of Manchester United who drew with Everton earlier on Saturday.

Geovanni’s brilliant free-kick made it another perfect day in north London for Hull City - and piled the pressure on Tottenham manager Juande Ramos.

The Brazilian stunned White Hart Lane with a brilliant curling effort from 30 yards after only eight minutes.

Spurs twice hit the woodwork through Gareth Bale and Jonathan Woodgate before the break while Hull’s Dean Marney also hit the woodwork.
