Brede Hangeland’s first-half goal gave Fulham their first win of the season against a disappointing Arsenal.

The giant defender stabbed in Jimmy Bullard’s cross from close range after 21 minutes.

Emmanuel Adebayor headed Bacary Sagna’s cross against the post shortly afterwards, but Arsenal rarely turned possession into clear chances.

Bobby Zamora almost added a second after the break as Fulham’s commitment earned a deserved three points.

Hull City 2-1 Fulham

August 17th, 2008 efootie Posted in Hull City, Fulham, Premiership No Comments »

Hull City marked their first appearance in English football’s top-flight by coming from behind to beat Fulham.

Substitute Caleb Folan side-footed home the winner after fellow sub Craig Fagan caught Fulham defender Paul Konchesky in possession in his own penalty area.

Brazilian striker Geovanni had brought the Tigers level before half-time with an exquisite curling shot round Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer.

Hull had earlier fallen behind to Seol Ki-Hyeon’s header.

A full house at the KC Stadium greeted the Premier League newcomers with a rapturous reception but it did not take long for Fulham to burst the bubble of euphoria.

Simon Davies let Hull off the hook when he planted his volley into the ground from Seol Ki-Hyeon’s dangerous cross.

Hull were then denied the lead when Mark Schwarzer dived full-length to claw away Geovanni’s header, and the Fulham keeper then combined with John Pantsil to block Ian Ashbee’s follow-up.

Portsmouth 0-1 Fulham

May 12th, 2008 efootie Posted in Fulham, Portsmouth, Premiership No Comments »

Danny Murphy’s 76th-minute header proved enough to secure Fulham’s Premier League status as they beat Portsmouth, despite a nervy display.

Fulham were heading for relegation, with rivals Reading and Birmingham winning, until Murphy’s strike.

The Cottagers created little else in the match but when Murphy rose to power in Jimmy Bullard’s free-kick, their travelling fans celebrated wildly.

Fulham had never before won three Premier League away matches in a row.

And for long spells it had seemed to be an impossible mission.

Fulham 2-0 Birmingham

May 4th, 2008 efootie Posted in Birmingham City, Fulham, Premiership No Comments »

Fulham struck twice after the break to edge towards Premier League safety and leave Birmingham facing the drop.

Brian McBride headed home Jimmy Bullard’s free-kick after 52 minutes to set Fulham on the way to victory.

Radhi Jaidi headed wide from Birmingham’s best chance with five minutes left before Erik Nevland broke clear to add Fulham’s second.

Fulham move out of the bottom three and Birmingham are under huge pressure in their last home game against Blackburn.

The Craven Cottage crowd celebrated wildly at the final whistle, with Roy Hodgson’s side recording their third win in four matches to spark an unlikely revival after they looked relegation certainties.
