Tottenham Hotspur will feel as though they have unfinished business with FA Cup football betting this year, after going out at the semi-final stage last season.
Despite dominating much of the semi final tie, Spurs couldn’t find a way past Portsmouth’s keeper David James and the South Coast club won it in extra time with goals from Frederic Piquionne and Kevin Prince Boateng.
The cup run was the one bright spot in an otherwise appalling season for Portsmouth, who were already relegated when they faced Chelsea in the final, losing 1-0. The score on that day could have been 10 plus nil, if it hadn’t of been for a heroic performance from James in goal.
Spurs went on to blame everything from the admittedly poor state of the Wembley surface, to the performance of the officials. Spurs did finish the season on a massive positive note, when they qualified for this season’s Champion’s League. They are now backed by some in the Premier league favourite odds to win.
Harry Redknapp will still be keen to lift the trophy again after doing it in 2008 with Portsmouth. On that occasion Redknapp’s side beat Cardiff 1-0 at Wembley – the second time in Portsmouth’s history that they have won the FA Cup.
While it remains to be seen if Redknapp will follow the majority of Premier League sides competing in the Champions League and use the tournament as a reserve team competition or if he will show it the respect it deserves and play a strong side. Redknapp is a different manager to the other top bosses though. As an Englishman, he knows and respects the FA Cup and will be surely going all out again to win the famous trophy.
