Portsmouth 2-0 Wigan

Mar 30, 2008

Jermain Defoe scored twice to maintain Portsmouth’s push for fifth place and leave relegation-threatened Wigan still fighting for Premier League survival.

Glen Johnson cleared Antonio Valencia’s goal-bound shot off the line before Defoe struck from an acute angle after good work by John Utaka on the flank.

Wigan were awarded a penalty for Sylvain Distin’s nudge on Valencia but David James saved Ryan Taylor’s effort.

Defoe then struck in the dying seconds to finish a great counter-attack.
