Inter Milan 0-1 Liverpool

Mar 12, 2008

Liverpool became the fourth English side to reach the Champions League quarter-finals with victory against Inter Milan at the San Siro.

Fernando Torres scored brilliantly on the turn after 64 minutes to give Liverpool a comfortable aggregate win.

Inter, who had Nicolas Burdisso sent off for a foul on Lucas Leiva after 50 minutes, wasted several chances.

Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina twice saved from Julio Cruz, who also shot wide when clean through in the first half.

Another typical European performance from Benitez and the boys. I believe in Reina, Carragher, Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres there is an awesome spine to a side that is beginning to fulfil it’s potential. Next season should be the one when a title challenge finally emerges after Torres, Babel and co settle after their first season. Skrtel is also looking a great signing and he and Agger could be the finds of the past few seasons and Liverpool’s central defensive partnership for the next few seasons at least.
